Intercom or Zendesk for WhatsApp? Run the Numbers
Both Intercom and Zendesk are fine products, but their pricing assumes a company that runs a support department. A clinic in the Gulf with five people on staff touches a small share of what either platform offers, yet the bill covers the whole thing. What follows is the arithmetic at three volumes, with every assumption written out so that you are free to challenge them.
We verified competitor pricing on 6 September 2026 against intercom.com/pricing and zendesk.de/pricing. Because Zendesk redirects visitors by region, the Zendesk figures below are in euros, exactly as the reachable page displayed them. Confirm the pricing for your own region before you build a budget.
How each one charges you
Each vendor runs a different meter, and that alone is why comparing them gets confusing.
- Intercom: priced per seat each month. On annual billing, Essential costs $29, Advanced $85, and Expert $132. Layered on top of that, the Fin AI agent starts at $0.99 per outcome, and WhatsApp conversations are again charged pay-as-you-go.
- Zendesk: priced per agent each month. With annual billing and a stated 20 percent annual discount, Support Team comes to EUR 19, Suite Team to EUR 55, and Suite Professional to EUR 115. Resolutions by the AI agent are billed apart from that on usage, and you pay only when a request closes without ever reaching a human.
- RevoplyAI: a monthly price driven by message volume, and no tier carries a per-seat charge. Basic is free with 175 messages, Starter runs $9 with 1,750, Pro runs $29 with 7,000, and Business runs $59 with 15,000.
Everything below rests on two assumptions, and neither one comes from someone else's published numbers; both are ours. The first is three messages per conversation on our meter. The second is that an AI agent resolves half of the conversations sent its way. Treat that second figure as a placeholder for the arithmetic, not as a verdict on how Fin or Zendesk's agent actually performs. Change it and every total shifts along with it, which is very much the point.
At 500 conversations a month
Picture a small clinic or salon where two people handle the messages.
| Seats | AI | Monthly | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intercom Essential | 2 x $29 = $58 | 250 x $0.99 = $248 | about $306 plus WhatsApp |
| Zendesk Suite Team | 2 x EUR 55 = EUR 110 | billed on usage | EUR 110 plus resolutions |
| RevoplyAI Pro | no seat charge | included | $29 |
On our meter this works out to 1,500 messages, and Pro at $29 covers that with headroom. The volume alone would technically fit Starter at $9, yet appointments and photo reading begin at Pro, and a clinic will want both.
At 2,000 conversations a month
Think of a busy shop, or a clinic with several branches and five people working the inbox.
| Seats | AI | Monthly | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intercom Essential | 5 x $29 = $145 | 1,000 x $0.99 = $990 | about $1,135 plus WhatsApp |
| Zendesk Suite Team | 5 x EUR 55 = EUR 275 | billed on usage | EUR 275 plus resolutions |
| RevoplyAI Pro | no seat charge | included | $29 |
That is 6,000 messages, and they still fall inside Pro. What deserves attention is the change between the two tables: our line stayed put while Intercom's climbed roughly fourfold. No sleight of hand is involved in the example. Per-outcome pricing simply works that way, since the bill grows with every conversation the AI handles successfully. The better it performs, the higher your bill.
At 10,000 conversations a month
A retailer operating regionally, or a large clinic group, with twelve people doing support.
| Seats | AI | Monthly | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intercom Essential | 12 x $29 = $348 | 5,000 x $0.99 = $4,950 | about $5,298 plus WhatsApp |
| Zendesk Suite Team | 12 x EUR 55 = EUR 660 | billed on usage | EUR 660 plus resolutions |
| RevoplyAI | no seat charge | included | past our published plans |
This is the point where honesty stops us from filling in our own column. Under our meter, 10,000 conversations amount to roughly 30,000 messages, while Business ends at 15,000. At this assumption, our published plans reach about 5,000 conversations a month. Beyond that, the right move is a conversation with us instead of a price printed on a page, and we have no intention of making up a number just to win a table.
Where the answer flips
The flip does not happen on price. Since seats cost nothing with us, our model grows relatively cheaper as headcount rises. What turns the answer around is capability, and that difference is genuine.
Once you reach roughly forty agents, what you operate is a support organisation, not merely a support function. Managing shifts and workloads becomes necessary, along with routing by skill, tracking SLAs, quality assurance with audit trails, and reports a director can actually act on. Intercom and Zendesk ship every one of those, because that is their purpose. We ship none of them. At that scale the expensive item is no longer the per-seat bill but the operational tooling you would lack, and paying more for the platform becomes the correct decision.
Should you prefer your own numbers to ours, the support cost calculator runs this arithmetic on your volumes, and where the savings genuinely come from receives a fuller treatment in reducing support costs with AI.
Arabic support, on both
Each platform presents an Arabic interface, treats right to left text correctly, and works successfully for companies across the region. The weak spot lies in retrieval rather than the interface: does a question typed in Khaleeji actually reach an answer written in Modern Standard Arabic? Our approach normalises Arabic ahead of matching by folding hamza forms, dropping the definite article, and clearing diacritics, then searches meaning and keywords side by side.
Put this to the test instead of trusting anyone's claim, including ours. Pick ten genuine dialect messages and feed them to the AI agent in each product. No table can decide this particular part of the comparison; only testing can.
How long each takes to get live
The cost that never makes it into the spreadsheet is implementation. Both Intercom and Zendesk offer enough configuration that setting them up becomes a project in itself: workflows, routing rules, ticket fields, permissions, and typically one person who ends up owning all of it for several weeks. Where a department needs organising, that effort pays for itself.
Our scope is narrow by design, and getting set up takes under fifteen minutes: hook up a channel, write your knowledge base, run a test, switch it on. That gap counts most for a business with no one to hand an implementation project to, which describes most of the businesses reading this page. The ROI guide for Saudi businesses works through the return side of that equation.
When you should buy Intercom instead
Choose it once support becomes a department instead of a task. Choose it when routing, SLAs, quality assurance, and workforce reporting are requirements, and a senior person answers for those numbers. Choose it when you back a software product inside the app as well as over WhatsApp, the scenario Intercom was built for and the one where it truly excels. And choose it when your team has grown large enough that a per-seat price is only a sliver of what those people already cost you.
Zendesk, meanwhile, earns the purchase when a genuine ticketing workflow with escalation tiers and several queues is in play, or when an existing Zendesk estate has to absorb whatever you pick. A clinic with three staff matches neither description, and there you have the entire argument. Whichever direction you lean, run the arithmetic on your own volumes before committing.
